Would he need to sign up on CP for messages, etc? If so, I'm sure he'd be game, but he still likely won't check in on CP very often (he'll be active as hell in sandbox though).

Bring him on! I'd be glad to find some good owners for the various teams. Leagues 1 and 2 are going to continue to be free leagues in recognition of everyone's patience with the beta testing, so any new owners going into those leagues will get a screamin' deal. Leagues 3 and up will be pay leagues.
With regard to communications, we're about to get vbulletin launched on the sandbox site, and we'll take discussions over there instead of borrowing CP bandwidth.
