If it makes you feel any better, we technically don't know what his situation is. It was one of those end-of-book cliffhangers that doesn't get resolved.

I'll keep it vague for your sake, but we do know that he has been seriously injured to the point that a person would normally not be expected to live. However, we don't know that his character is killed off for good, and honestly, I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't still exist in the story in one form or another.

I'll jump in and use my dormant superpowers to edit the thread title though.
