This is interesting. I think religion is a great thematic source for films. I don't think anyone needs to be scared of it. I am not religious, but I do find myself enjoying religious themed movies just as much as others if they are well made (good storytelling.)

There was a small movie a few years ago with Henry Thomas in the Appalachian mountains, forget the name, but if it had had better editing, and better overall production value, it would have been a great movie. I think it generally was written off by distributors due to the quality of the production (not to be confused with the performances, which are terrific,) but the Christian theme ended up taking the blame.

I find that sad. Just looked it up, The Last Sin Eater - 2007.
