Yeah, the first film in the 90s was pretty damn serious. The turtles cursed, Splinter got kidnapped and the shit beat out of him, Raph was on the verge of death, etc..
The Secret of the Ooze was straight up cheese but still good, in my opinion. I actually watched it somewhat recently and enjoyed it.
The third one was just shit.
