The O-Lines in general in the NFL are playing poorly, yet the good QBs are still good.
Is having a good O-Line better than having a bad one? Of course. But you can make up for having a bad O-Line with a good QB.
You can't make up for having a bad QB though. You can have the best O-Line in the league, but if doesn't matter if your QB sucks.
Giving Alex Smith another second will not make him a better QB. Instead of taking advantage of that extra time, he'll simply still either not feel the pressure, or he'll feel it and instead of moving around and buying extra time while still looking down the field and making plays, he'll panic and either run into the pressure, or he'll tuck it and run or check it down to the RB.
Alex Smith will still be Alex Smith with a good O-Line. Aaron Rodgers will still be Aaron Rodgers with our O-Line.

The QB option has been running about 75% through most of the poll. If you use the shitty QB/great O-line example then flip that around to shitty line/great QB. A great QB will still get hammered if his line is worthless.
