The issue is less about how they handle her ethnicity as it is about how they handle her hatred of Roland's. Or half of her hatred of Roland's. The storyline from the series can't work as originally written of they're both dark skinned. It just can't. So they're going to have to change something about her, whether it's her ethnicity or her origin, unless they just completely leave out odetta/detta. Which wouldn't make any sense.
