It was actually the first mass-produced 4130 Chromoly frame [late late 70s].
It was a little heavier than the lightest frames of the time [mid-80s], but I actually liked the heft. And I REALLY like the geometry.

My buddy had a GT Pro Performer, and every time I tried to get big air, it wanted to wiggle out from under me in the air, and I played heck landing it with my feet still on the pedals. The Mongoose was light enough to accelerate quickly but had enough heft to stay under me even when I was 10-15 feet off the ground.

It just felt 'right' whatever I wanted to do on it. Ground stuff, air stuff, dirt stuff. Real solid and well thought out.

Buddy's bike was almost exactly like this;

It was OK on the ground, doing decades and endos and shit. But I hated it in the dirt or in the air.
