Yeah screw that. I have been in a small boat in the middle of a lake when a storm rolled in and thought I was going in the drink. I make the girl I was with vest up and I did the same. I managed to get the thing back to shore without sinking it, but I have had a healthy respect for weather/lakes since that incident.
I error on the side of caution.
