One shouldn't use more than 3 feet of that flexible stuff. The photo of the lint build up will explain as to why that stuff should not be used.
Right now I have the crappy flexible stuff and it's on about a 7ft run. I'm running a Maytag Neptune which has an incredible amount of back air pressure so I haven't had an issue. With that said after reading this thread I'm debating redoing it with metal as a weekend project.
