I would argue it was far different from Colorado leaving which most people didn't even notice. Mizzou is a very good school in an important state with a valued history with several legacy members.

While I agree with you that one would think MU added value when it came to sports they simply don't. Which is incredible being that they have media markets in St. Louis and Kansas City to draw from.
CBS stated that MU adds no value for their TV deal and nothing negative has happened to the Big 12 since their departure. The rivalry aspect with Kansas was rough in the beginning but is being quickly forgotten. UT-A&M, Syracuse-UCONN, etc are all experiencing the same things.
