Let's not get too crazy holding him out as a paragon of virtue just yet. It's not hard to find a guy that would've spotted overbilling without also bringing in the red flags that Jimmy carried with him in the incredibly recent past.
I don't think anybody would deny that there is some truth to what Chuck is saying and a rational basis for believing it. That's part of what makes it so difficult to watch. But that also doesn't mean he was saying it for those reasons or that his own ego/pride/self-image aren't blinding him to Jimmy's good qualities.
