Much more so than the nature of the sport is the nature of the varied teams and cultures and countries involved.
You have a lot of soccer being played in countries with hurting economies that make players and coaches really really easy targets. Everyone *needs* the money.
I pretty much accept the match fixing in a certain list of countries as well as smaller the leagues.
The UEFA Champions League match fixing was eye opening and it seems it can be traced to a team from Hungary. Debreceni VSC. We are talking about a club that has a stadium that accommodates 9,200 seated spectators and 1,000 standing.
So you have this team that doesn't make a shit ton of money because of their success in a tournament playing some of the biggest teams in the world with huge payouts...shit is gonna get off kilter.
