Quite honestly, that has never happened.
I grew up with a legendary guitarist as a father. He told me from age four that I'd surpass him as a guitarist and a musician and I did. With his help and guidance, I've been able to make a living composing music for film and TV.
That said, I completely and fully love guitarists. I've been onstage with Les Paul and Al DiMeola and Larry Carlton and Larry Coryell and countless others. But being able to play guitar hasn't defined me.

Your focus isn't on music but on an instrument. The goal isn't to be "the greatest in the world" but to be a part of something special. It doesn't matter if that's as a cellist, violinist, trumpeter, orchestrator or percussionist.
The goal should be "I work in the music business for a living, doing what I love", not "I'm the greatest!".
