The release of "Fire and Fury", a book that I will never read, has obviously attracted the attention of many media, even if it does not seem to me with so much resonance or in any case not with what the author (and not only him) she hoped.

Anyway, anyway, some money will take him home for sure. I understand, after all, that today attention is drawn to strong feelings rather than the substance of the facts. People live every day hoping to be amazed, but they do it by looking down, never looking up. Not bad, if it were not that the political class, a good part of it, treasures this stupid distraction grazing its people of fallacies promises and trivial arguments, from vaudeville, as necessary to make him keep that expression of stupid surprise, to open mouth and wide-eyed, staring into space. Turning security policy facts into stupid news. Just to stop him from looking any further. For example, what are the national interests.

It would now be, in fact, that the citizen was clearly told in detail how our action wants to pose itself before the international problems. We must be clearer and more transparent. Of course, it should not be him, the citizen, to decide (as some would like) if you need to buy an F35 or a new aircraft carrier, but it is true that he must say, and today more than yesterday, because it is intended to do.

In this, trying to be a little more convincing than the answer of a certain minister to the question of what fighter-bombers are for1. It would be enough to take a cue from what others have always done, and it does not matter if we are talking about great powers or minor powers. The identification of one's own interests and above all the definition of objectives and the strategy to be implemented to achieve them is a path that Italians must know. Domestic politics undoubtedly influence foreign policy, but it can not be excluded that the latter can ultimately influence the other. And this is a perhaps unwanted and sought-after effect of globalization.

We learn from others.

At the end of 2017, President Trump released his first National Security Strategy2. And, unusual, he anticipated it with his own official speech. Many have already written a lot and have grasped important things and I certainly will not discover anything new. However, there is only one aspect that no one, as far as I am aware, has noticed, namely that the document, as it was structured this time, is definitely aimed at the citizen, or as the Americans like to say, taxpayers. I'll be back later. Our politicians should read it, everything. They would acquire in a good sense, sense of state and love of country!

I start from the end, page 55. Trump, in the conclusions, says that "... This strategy (America's first National Security Strategy - nda) is guided by principled realism. It is realist because it acknowledges the central role of power in international politics, affirms that the sovereign states are the best hope for a peaceful world. It is principled because it is grounded in the knowledge that advances American principles spreads peace and prosperity around the globe. We are guided by our values and disciplined by our interests ... ". But realism for Trump also means that "... the inevitable culmination of progress ...".

These steps would be enough to understand the content of the whole document, sovereignty, the strength of nation-state, national interests and the end of the idiot (for me) onusiana conviction of Responsability to Protect (R2P). But let's add something else. This trumpian approach - America first - in fact, is clear from the beginning, in the introduction, where it explains that "... strenghtening our sovereignty ..." and "... we must protect four vital national interests in this competitive world ... ", adds Trump.

Moreover, even in his recent speech at the UN he had said "... our respect for sovereignty is also a call for action. All people deserve their nations, their interests, and their well-being, including their prosperity ... We do not expect countries to share the same culture, traditions, or even systems of government, but we do expect all nations to uphold these two cores sovereign duties, to respect the interests of their own people and the rights of every other sovereign nation ... As long as I hold this office, I will defend America's affairs above all else, but in fulfilling our obligations to our nations , we also realize that it's in everyone's interests to seek the future where all nations
