Candidate on current staff:
■ Dennis Thurman spent six seasons coaching Baltimore's secondary, four as the secondary coach, two as defensive assistant alongside Rex Ryan. During his Ravens tenure, the team led the NFL with 126 interceptions and 18 interception returns for touchdowns while he was coaching, among others, Ed Reed (34 INTs, 2002-07), Chris McAlister, Samari Rolle and Deion Sanders.
■ Before coming back to the NFL, he coached defensive backs at his alma mater, Southern Cal, for eight seasons (1993-2000).
■ He made his NFL coaching debut for the Phoenix Cardinals, coaching defensive backs for two seasons (1988-89).
PLAYING CAREER
■ Thurman was selected in the 11th round (306th overall) of the 1978 NFL Draft by Dallas.
■ He played nine years in the NFL as a CB and S, eight seasons with the Cowboys and one with the Cardinals.
■ He recorded 36 career interceptions (four returned for touchdowns) and played in Super Bowl XIII for the Cowboys in 1979.
■ A two-time All-America safety at USC, he was part of teams that won four bowl games and the 1974 national championship and was a teammate of future Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott. In his Trojans career he had 13 INTs, returning two for scores.
■ He played QB and DB at Santa Monica HS on three CIF Division I championship teams that combined to go 39-1-1.
