IMO, this is plain ****ing stupid because there is some nice source elements in the book series, but if a corporate identity or a writer is too arrogant to recognize that for the sake to be "original" then that's a good way to **** up. A perfect example is how George Lucas handled the prequels and ignoring good material that he could've used from the book series.
