I was so very, very close to getting Tony Gonzalez. The top two tight ends were both second rounders, so I knew I would be able to get one of them.
Even though he was the 2nd rated TE on the board, I decided that the guy who had B+/B/B- scouting traits was going to be the Gonzalez doppleganger, vs the guy who had a C mixed in on his last trait. He also had a faster 40 time so I figured his OVR was definitely going to be higher.
I let the first guy go, and then as soon as a TE-needy team was up, I traded up to 2.16 (it only cost me a 7th and next year's 4th) and took my guy.
Then at the end of the draft I looked through all the overalls and kicked myself. The top guy was a 77 vs my 74, so I get Freddie Jones, which isn't altogether horrible. Just picked the wrong guy.
The Texans are going to be lethal with Plummer, Gonzalez, Terry Glenn and Chris Warren.
As for Joe, Bob Whitfield might have something to say about that.
I'm counting on a HUGE resurgence of my passing game now that my best WR isn't a rookie (ROCKET, BABY) and Desmond Howard isn't dropping half the balls thrown his way. What a terrible, terrible signing he was. But at least he was cheap.
