However, the move by Harbaugh to Kaep really drives the point home. He saw what Smith's ceiling was and figured out he wasn't the answer. Sorry, but I'm tired of starting a QB who has already been figured out that he isn't the answer somewhere else. Generally, they don't go on to be the answer elsewhere. There are a few anomalies, but it's about the same as drafting a late round QB and him working out.

Alex Smith's limitations were on full display in the NFC Championship Game against the Giants last season. The 49ers had zero downfield passing game.
