You can enter any restroom - go to the mirror and click B. Save the game progress to your harddrive. It saves your level and your progression through the game.
When you die you can either choose to start the game over at your current level - meaning the level you died at, so if you die at level 10 you can start the game at a level 10. Or you can choose to start from the last spot you saved the game at and your current level. I think.
