But they didn't always do a great job of getting their hands on a body. I remember on one play in particular, Avery put a quick hand-check on Smith (iirc) when Smith came in for the bump and just blew past him.
And yes, Avery is fast. Alex Smith threw a ball out there for him (maybe Daniel) that I thought he had no chance on and he hit an extra gear and went out and got it for a long TD catch towards the end of practice.
I honestly don't recall seeing a WR on this team that had that ability to turn it on and separate using raw speed like that. It was incredibly impressive.

that's what a lot of folks see in Avery. He needs to put that together during regulation and on a more consistent basis, though. and then, there's the drops thing -- last season's rankings;
