My advice would be to purchase another guitar, as you'll never be happy with the tone because it's made of pine.
If you don't want to purchase a Mexi or Road Worn Tele, go the "kit" route with Warmoth or Allparts. Warmoth offers super high quality woods and necks but it's far from cheap. Allparts and Mighty Mite are more affordable but it could be hit or miss on the body.
Also, if you desire lower action, make sure to get either a 10-16" compound radius neck or at least a straight 10" radius. That way, the strings will be level and far more playable. Keep in mind though when building you own, the necks usually require a level and dress.
As for P90's, the Lollar's are the best I've ever heard.
