If he doesn't die in this one, that would probably be the biggest surprise outside of one of those top five I listed (and maybe Glenn/Maggie) going down. The entire season has been a set up for a fight with Rick in this episode and I think it ends for Phillip next week and they move on to a new story line in S4. Not completely sure who does it, but Andrea would probably be my guess considering her arc this season.
I don't think you can trust the comics regardless. Hell, from what I just read, Maggie is raising sophia after carol offs herself.
