I guess it's possible that Luke didn't kill the KoR earlier because he didn't want to allow his anger to lead him to the Dark Side but that's just massive speculation and would need to be explained somehow, if it was really his perspective in Rey's dream.

My guess is; he was not on-world, he had Rey with him, and returned to the enclave after the fact. He then decided to take her to Jakku.
