Mostly this i guess...heh. but i dont know..... I always hear how the modern movie audience is sort of "dumbed down", but people have always naturally leaned towards the familiar. Thats just how we are wired.
I think a big problem is the budgets for alot of these modern blockbusters. 150-200 million +. Movies dont play nearly as long as they used to back in the day......so now days if you dont get that HUGE opening weekend number in relation to your budget, your viewed instantly as a disappointment, which then helps drive away business in later weeks, because "word of mouth" thinks the movie sucks.
My guess is this movie disappoints stateside, but is probably HUGE overseas. Stateside its the type of film that looks like its only going to appeal to die hard fanboy types. I dont see much female, older or family appeal.
