Well Germany and Japan had the industrial capability to build a lot of military hardware, and we had to mobilize every aspect of our society to be the major builder of military hardware for the Allied side. And we would not have been able to do it as well if FDR and his New Deal projects had not created the infrastructure to generate the electricity necessary to power the factories.
Of course, our fighting men contributed greatly, but if we did not have a progressive government in charge for the decade previous, World War II would have ended with a truce that left most of Europe and East Asia under Fascist rule.
