One aspect of training an alpha dog I haven't seen brought up in this thread is the importance of socialization when they're young in the first year. That's of major importance to get them ready to be able to take for a walk in the park or in the woods where they're going to encounter others.

I have no experience with training a pit bull only because I love German Sheppard's and border collies and just don't have the time for much more unless I make it a job.

As mean as it may sound when you're dealing with a German Sheppard, pitdbull or mastif or whatever that is one day going to be ~100lbs dog. Stick your knee in that ****ers chest when he's 50lbs look him in the eye and don't let him up until he knows who is boss. It's a lot easier than when he can take you and other dogs. Get them early.

Socialization and early dominance. They aren't people that you can reason with later on when it's too late.
