That was kind of my point. He isn't going to win over any new voters with this only alienate those that actually vote based on this issue. Plus we really have bigger things that need to be addressed, like carbon taxes on bicyclists.
My point is anyone who is alienated by this type of move, would never support him regardless. Many social conservatives stayed home this election cycle because they couldn't support Romney. Many conservatives stayed home because they couldn't support Romney. Reagan created a coalition of Conservatives, Libertarians, and Evangelicals. That is what Rand Paul is trying to do. Most Libertarians accept the position that in order to have liberty, all life must be treated equally, including the unborn. I don't even agree with that, but I understand the position. As long as Rand Paul doesn't go Todd Akin on us, this won't hurt him.
