I think it's the nature of the human body. You can eat right, take care of yourself, exercise, etc. but it doesn't matter if you're a normal guy or even a world class athlete, age hits us all really hard, no matter how hard we try to avoid it.

We just don't have the capability to heal like we did in our teens and early 20's and you're exactly right: It goes down hill quickly.
Yep, we had a baby this year too. It's crazy how much that dominates your time. There is literally no time for anything else really.
