I think 14 years here has conditioned me to expect the worst possible outcome....

I don't think any of the mocks picking Joeckel at one have anything to do with him being that much better than Smith, I think it's just prognoticators who are still in the "a qb bust kills a franchise for a decade, take a tackle it's less risky" mindset of a few years ago. I think Smith should be at the top of our board, I don't think there's any reason he shouldn't be looking at the rest of the class (as a whole, not just at QB), but I just have a hard time convincing myself we won't do the same crap that we always do.
