Read tons of SK's books, perhaps most of them. And while many of his books are 'scary' there was enough of the supernatural for me to say 'scary story, but could never happen IRL.'

But Gerald's Game is the story of

Spoiler!

And it was sufficiently realistic and plausible [evidenced by the subsequent real life incident mentioned in the spoiler] to totally wig me out.

A chick who gets handcuffed to a sturdy bed at a [IIRC] beach house at the end of the vacation season, by her illicit boyfriend who promptly has a fatal heart attack. It follows through her trying to figure out how to get out of her predicament, which she solves by 'de-gloving' ie, skinning her hand completely off. Kind of the fictional precursor to that dude who chopped his arm off when he fell into a cravasse And it was sufficiently realistic and plausible [evidenced by the subsequent real life incident mentioned in the spoiler] to totally wig me out. __________________ We need the kind of courage that can withstand the subtle corruption of the cynics - E.W.
