Most of them want to hold on to this nostalgic notion that they were instrumental in their teams success. It's understandable why former Chiefs would want to diminish the importance of the QB in today's NFL because they never played with one.
Hell, just listen to Darren Sharper and Heath Evans, or Willie McGinest. The first thing out of their mouths is "boy their QB isn't very good". Why? Because they're wearing rings because of a stud QB.
