There's always the danger that a person will over-react in situations like this. You want to avoid that, if at all possible.

In this case, he's taken the concept a little further than I would have, but I understand his reluctance to act any sooner.

Meanwhile, I'm sure he's thinking of how to extricate himself from this bizarre situation and come out a hero on the other side.
