Why do we issue food stamps anyway? The seem like such a waste of resources: Printing them, storing them, distributing them etc. Why don't we just have food banks run by local churches and charities where people can come and get some bread, milk, rice and MREs?

I've been behind that idea for a long time. I posted it in here again when I saw the Mormon stores that pass out food.
