If Pioli were anyone else ... or had a different pedigree, there's no doubt in my mind that Clark would have canned him by now.
I think one aspect of Clark's apparent hesitation has to do with the sheer head-shaking disbelief that Pioli could be this incompetent, Mr. KC Tattoo. I mean, who would have thought that the two-time (or is it three-time?) NFL Executive Of The Year is a madman, a buffoon, and a fraud?
I know there were a few Planeteers who had early doubts (see Mr. Dane McCloud), but it's probably fair to say that the vast majority of NFL observers considered Pioli to be the hottest GM commodity in the league. It's likely that Clark is torn between wanting to believe this is simply a string of incredibly bad fortune and the amazingly hard-to-swallow, stark reality that Pioli is a qualified nutcase.
