Wow was he right, original take on the genre from start to finish, beautifully shot. You can take it as a life metaphor on several levels & admire it that way as a piece of art or you can get into it strictly as a horror movie, it just succeeds in so many way. To quickly & cheaply categorize it, think a mix of Sixth Sense for eerie suspense & subdued look with elements of Interview With A Vampire, Shakespearian love tragedies like MacBeth & the Shining.
This movie engages you in so many ways... King was right.
