About 20 years ago in Baltimore I had a neighbor who sat in his front yard almost every summer night. He was an older man, since died. In those days I'd get home from work about 9:30 most nights and there he'd sit in his lawn chair with a six-pack cooler alongside and his radio. The radio was always tuned to the Orioles game which I'd also be listening to in the car. After I parked and before I went inside I'd always stop for a moment to talk to him about the game. Sometimes I'd go get a beer and then sit with him and listen for an inning or so. I'm not sure if we ever called each other by name but we both liked the Orioles and we both liked beer and we both liked summer nights.

I don't think there was a home owners association in that neighborhood. Still, it was a nice place to live.
