Apparently the human population was tiny at some point in our past. I read recently that the low point was estimated to be only 1,300 people on earth about 70,000 years ago. It's possible that with some bad breaks that large predators could have rendered the human species extinct at that point. It's interesting to think about a world with no humans where it's just a bunch of animals running around in anarchy.
