I lived on 38th on the west side of the trafficway. I practicly lived on the corner where Nichols was. Used to be a good bar (don't remember name), King Henry's Feast, and a great barbershop to keep up with the neighborhood buzz. There was a night manager, Frank? that always let me now if the daily special was special. I never cooked very often back then.
Back to great places, here is a flash from the past.
John Wollam and Katey McGuckin (before her KY102 fame) owned the place.
