When you start getting to the 3-D consoles, it's hit or miss. Those polygons didn't age well and the controls on a lot of those platformers was just garbage (now I'm looking at you, Tomb Raider for PS1).

Ah Contra.
I beat that game so many times using the 30 life code that eventually I didn't need to use it. Never did achieve a flawless run. Dying only once was the best I could do. Still, I think that was pretty good.
