Personally, I like the neo-noir approach and tone ... of course, I still like a good western, so there's that ...
The moral ambiguity combined with the self-narration by the protagonist is a great way to present a super-hero living in a corrupt world, IMO. When you think about it, that character design is one of the things that sets Marvel apart.
It's not just "Boom! Bash! Crunch!" ... it's "Why do I boom, bash & crunch?"
Plus, I think Ritter does a damn good job in the role.
