Never fell out of the top rack, but I did accidentally roll out of the middle rack once. It was about a three foot drop to the tile-covered steel deck. That sucked. As I recall, alcohol was a factor.

I remember one guy rolled out of the top bunk, which was about a six foot drop, one night when we hit a swell and took a 30 degree roll. The top racks had protective railings, but they only stuck up a few inches; he rolled right over it. He broke his arm. Probably lucky that's all he broke.
I never would've guessed that the middle bunk was best. How many guys were in your ... dorm? bunkhole? Let's call it a dorm.
