When you trade for a player, you only owe the base salary, the trading team is on the hook for the prorated portion of what’s already been paid in a bonus.

this is why i say, "**** it. Just pay Houston his #21 million, play him, tag and trade Ford for what will be a minimum #2 pick, you come out a couple million ahead this season, draft Houston's replacement with that pick and then cut Houston next offseason for $1.5 in dead money."
