Sure. If future me traveled back in time and told the 2013 SNR, "You will have to endure 5 seasons of Alex Smith in order to get to the REALLY good QB," I probably would have gritted my teeth and said, "Fine." After all, I waited as long as I did for the team to draft a 1st round QB, so what's 5 more seasons of waiting?
But **** using those two 2nd round picks on Alex. I said as much back in 2013 (look it up in this thread if you want) that if Dorsey deemed there was no good talent at the top of the draft, then don't trade away the valuable part of the draft and hamstring yourself next year. If the best you could do was Eric Fisher at #1 overall, then trade the #1 overall for Alex Smith. Get that pick the **** out of here and KEEP your 2nd rounders. You still had a LT in Albert and a RT in Eric Winston on the roster. Find your linemen elsewhere.
Imagine if we had that 2nd round pick in 2014. We could have had a really decent player. Possibly one of those flashy WRs so we wouldn't have ever had to waste money on Jeremy Maclin.
