In the middle parts of the game I actually thought our most effective work was running the football.

It actually seemed to calm PM down a bit. After those first few drives when it was looking easy (and James made a goddamn amazing play to break up what would have been one of the better touchdown throws I've ever seen), he was falling into some Texas Tech habits and maybe making the game a little too fast/too arcadish. That's great when it works but doesn't work for 60 minutes.

The defense needed a blow and there were 2-3 series there in the middle, especially that first drive coming out after the half, where they really methodically shoved it down SD's throat.

I don't think the running game was good, but I don't think it was terrible either. It was a C+/B- effort. Room for improvement but still a hell of a lot better than the secondary played...
