Japan's underground pop and rock scene has seen a huge amount of creativity since 2010 with Babymetal being the most popular act but other groups like Band-Maid and Necronomidol gaining decent followings in the West.

That's what basically it all came down to when pop took over around the turn of the century. Even college rock stations started playing top 40 pop because at the time that's what the kids were listening to. I just didn't want to have to search for music. I just started branching out my tastes to go more in depth with old hip hop, older metal. If I have to look it's going to be deeper into when music wasn't pop. Like last year as an example I really got into death and black metal, and thanks for mentioning some ideas as I'm gonn go check out Ghost now
