McGregor is going to be huge in the ring. Mayweather probably didn't have to cut at all as he was at his more natural weight, he had to try hard to gain if anything.

This is not particularly unusual for an MMA weigh-in. Because wrestling is a big part of MMA, and wrestlers have figured out weight cuts to a science, it is routine for MMA fighters to be 10 pounds overweight the day before, where they have been loading up on water for a week, getting their bodies used to eliminating water as quickly as possible, then they abruptly stop drinking and the cut begins. If a boxer is a few pounds overweight shortly before a weigh-in, thats a disaster because they don't have a weight-cutting culture, but MMA does.
They simply keep losing weight until they are on weight, and they stop the cut and go to the weigh-in. Its common for fighters to be exactly on weight within half a pound because they have their own scales that work. Conor was probably extra-careful to be on weight when he went a pound under, most MMA fighters weigh in exactly on weight or maybe a half pound under. The fact that Conor was a full pound under was not a sign that he was cutting it close, but rather that he was making for damn sure he'd be on weight or under on the big stage.
