It easily would. That's the advantage of such a long season. It's still May. You can be around .500 on July 1st and you're still alive. Especially with the 2nd wild card now.
Heck even right now the Royals are only 4.5 out of a playoff spot. It's a weird year though. In the NL there are a few teams who've fallen off the pace and are 10-12 games back of anyone else. Literally most all of the AL is in a big clump. There isn't a single team that has fallen off the cliff yet.
