I think I set pretty fair expectations for Smith and he hit them pretty much on the nose. The organization gave him some time to prove he could do better than just a playoff appearance and when it was determined that he plateaued, they found his replacement.
Granted, I still think they waited a year too long but after his 2015 season, he earned the rope they gave him in '16. And by giving him that rope, they got a better long-term prospect in Mahomes than they'd have had in Lynch. So all told, I'd say it worked out.

They really couldn't have asked foe a better situation than they've got now.
Smith is still a good steady player and can still allow the young team to win and learn to win while developing the next guy.
