Jeff Hostetler is injured! In steps Vince Evans to take on the Chiefs. Can he survive DT and Smith?
Vince takes the Raiders right down the field on their first drive, and Napolean McCallum runs right over KC. 7-0 Raiders.
The Chiefs would immediately strike back on their opening possession, however. Montana looked deep to Davis once again.
Unfortunately, the Chiefs defense was proving to be no challenge for Vince Evans. He unwisely threw into double coverage and still got away with it.
Montana responded with a drive of his own, but it was stopped short when Howie Long almost sent Joe into early retirement.
Yikes, Joe. Get down. The field goal made it 14-10, however, and then Derrick Thomas made a game-changing play.
Unfortunately, the Chiefs couldn't punch it in thanks to Willie Davis dropping a perfect TD strike. At 14-13, though, the Chiefs defense once again stepped up.
With a 15-14 lead, the Chiefs had the lead at halftime, but it wouldn't last long. After a Raiders FG in the third quarter, disaster struck for KC after a curiously aggressive call by Marty Schottenheimer.
And here is where the game started to turn. Smelling blood, Evans went after Albert Lewis for a big gain.
The bomb led to another Raiders TD and a 26-15 lead. The Chiefs offense was a mess of dropped passes and bad pass protection and could not respond.
A garbage time made the score somewhat respectable, but the Chiefs fell back under .500 on this awful day in Oakland. Napolean McCallum smashed the Chiefs with 157 yards rushing and 2 TDs, and Tim Brown had 129 yards on just three catches.
**** you, Chiefs receivers.
