I would definitely do it for sure. I was there this summer and as long as you are living in 5 star all inclusive resort you are set. It is however such a poor country- and I mean very very poor- so be careful. The locals are genuinely nice people with heart. However outside the resorts you'll find nothing to be desired as far as landmarks are concerned.
I would do it for the experience. Nice white sandy beaches under the hot unforgiving sun. Dominican Republic is a paradise, do it and don't look back. Also never ever drink their unfiltered water
